I was very excited today when I went into work. I glanced out of the window and saw a pair of blue tits working very hard to prepare the nesting box for their upcoming family. One of them even posed long enough for me to take a photo!
The light was poor this morning as it was a mizzly day, so the pictures aren’t great. But I was delighted that she (I think it was a ‘she’) allowed me to get near the door and take a photo.
All morning she and her mate were busy flying in and out of the box, tidying it up no doubt and cleaning the entrance. It really was a perfect example of spring cleaning!
The library is closed this week as I am restructuring it but no doubt the children will be very excited to come back after Easter and see all the activity going on. The last time we had blue tits was two years ago and they let us watch as they fed their young, with their little beaks popping out the hole. The courtyard provides a warm and safe place for the birds to bring up their young and I can’t wait to watch them this year. Watch this space for further updates!
